Rome's main airport getting 16 new gates

Work starts at Rome's main Leonardo da Vinci airport for 16 new gates for international flights aiming to accommodate 20 million more passengers.

Officials at Rome's main airport say Wednesday that the $300 million is scheduled to be completed in 2011.

The Leonardo da Vinci airport currently serves around 33 million air travelers a year. Another city airport in Ciampino has seen an increase in flights by low-cost carriers in recent years.
